Senseless Fight

It was 10:55 a.m. on Thursday morning.  I, along with approximately twenty other students hopelessly tried to pay attention to our physics teacher as he explained something to do with electric potential.  It was too early in the morning; so, honestly, who remembers?  Suddenly, Claudia’s cellular phone vibrated.  Her screen illuminated indicating a new text message.  Curiously, I leaned over to see who would possible distract her from concentrating in physics class.  As usual, she pulled her cellular phone away from me to hide the identity of the caller and the secret message.  “Christopher, mind your own business!” she exclaimed.  I turned to her, obviously upset and told her, “Whatever, I don’t care, hide all the messages you want, keep the secrets, I’m gonna remember that.”  Two things I absolutely hate are:  1. I detest when people hide things from me; and, 2. I loathe when people lie to me.   Claudia had clearly executed both violations.  What were the secrets about anyway?  Nevertheless, there was a secret and it was not for me to know.

“Lovely!” Claudia thought to herself as she witnessed Christopher storm out of the classroom.   “What a pretty reward for sitting through this boring physics class.”  He invaded my privacy to the nth degree.   I quickly removed my cellular phone from his hands before he could read the text message.  As I did that, his smile turned upside down into a frown.  That “pissed off” look he sometimes puts on was immediately painted on his face.  What a sour puss!  Honestly, gets worked up over the smallest of issues.  The point is that if he finds out that I am meeting up with Karina after school he’s going to get upset and make an issue of it.
Claudia’s attitude did not impress me.  I pretended to head towards my locker so I did not have to wait for her after class.  She caught up as I walked in the hallway towards my next class. As she was walking beside me, pretending that all was fine and dandy, her cell phone rang.  She answered, “Hello.”  After a short silence, she asked, “Where do I meet you?”   As I try to figure out who she is talking to she added, “Okay perfect.  I’ll meet you at Dawson in about half an hour.”   I immediately knew she was meeting up with her best friend at Dawson.   Angry, hurt and upset I put on my “neutral face” and pretended that she was invisible.
He’s upset.  I know he’s upset.  He’s ignoring me.  He always ignores me when he’s upset with me.  I know he’s upset because he still has that look on his face.  So, I decided to be the bigger person and tried to make amends.  “Christopher, you look upset.”  And, with a growl louder than that of a lion he responded, “Upset!  How can you accuse me of being upset?”
How could she possibly think everything is okay by casually talking to me on msn later that day, asking me a simple question for the Biology homework? She keeps all these little secretes from me, ditches me during our break and goes to see our friends at Dawson without me; yet, she still believes everything is fine. But I knew full well that she had more to say to me.

“Claudia says: k i have a question. you have to do a line of best fit for the curves in bio, right?
Chris says: yup.”
If there is one thing I cannot stand, is one people answer a question with one word answers. Does he think that he’s cleared everything up by responding by “yup?” Doesn’t really matter, I know what I have to do for my biology homework. It was just a way in to try to get him to talk.

"Claudia says: I thought you were joking and mad about me going to dawson.
Chris says: no, it’s the secrets I cant stand.
Claudia says: but it wasn’t a secret if I was talking to her on the phone in front of you and I knew you couldnt come bc you had class or else obvi we would have gone together
Chris says: how am i suppose to know what is happening on your phone convo? I’m so pissed over the secrets you have with everyone else, and you secret text messages you cant share with anyone. Everytime I take your phone, it’s a whole production to get it back.
Claudia says: yeah bc why shud u read my messages? I don’t have secrets.
Chris says: k wtv."
With that silly interrogation, both Claudia and I looked at each other and burst into uncontrollable laughter.  What was it?  Why did she have to keep things from me?  Why did I have to act so immature as to ignore her as a result of it all?  I can only conclude one thing.  Claudia and I have known each other for several years.  Even before we developed a friendship, our families were connected.  We endured five years of high school together.  We supported each other through every single class, every bad teacher, and every good teacher.  We have the same friends.  We even decided to attend the same College.  Why all this senseless arguing?  I can only attribute it to the fact that Claudia’s family has been so welcoming to me and this is our form of sibling rivalry.
